SOFIA, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, accompanied by a business delegation, came to Bulgaria for a two-day visit ending on Thursday, to boost bilateral ties.

"I have the firm intention to recover the dynamics of trade between the two countries and to multiply the opportunities for Bulgarian and Brazilian businessmen," Rousseff told a joint press conference on Wednesday after talks with her Bulgarian counterpart Georgi Parvanov.

Rousseff, whose father was born in Bulgaria, said since she arrived in this country she was surrounded by much love on behalf of the government and the people.

"I came to Bulgaria with the hope and expectation to turn this love into concrete gestures of rapprochement between our two countries," Rousseff said.

Brazil saw Bulgaria as a strategic strong ally in this region of the world where it wanted to expand its presence, Rousseff said.

According to her, the commercial exchange was the first area that the two countries could jointly develop.

Education, medicine, technology, agriculture, renewable energy, especially biofuels, aviation, mining and processing of oil, were other promising areas of cooperation, said Rousseff.

In turn, Parvanov said that for Bulgarians it was a long-awaited, emotional, but workable and fruitful visit.

He said nuclear energy, sport and culture as areas of cooperation were also discussed during the meeting.

"I believe that the Brazilian business will find Bulgaria as a good place to invest," Parvanov said.

The two sides, in the presence of the two presidents, signed an agreement on economic cooperation and a joint declaration on cooperation in information technology.

Parvanov also awarded Rousseff with Bulgaria's highest civilian honor, the Order of Stara Planina, while Rousseff awarded him with the Brazilian Order of "Southern Cross", grade "Grand Cross".

Later on Thursday the two presidents will attend a Brazilian-Bulgarian business forum, and Rousseff will meet with the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva.

On Thursday, during her first visit to Bulgaria ever, Rousseff will visit the town of Gabrovo, where her father was born.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said Monday that her visit to Europe last week had been productive.

"I went to Brussels, where I participated in the Fifth EU-Brazil Summit and met with government representatives and businessmen from Belgium, Bulgaria and Turkey," Rousseff said in her weekly radio show. "I am sure this trip will bring many positive results for Brazil."

The president also talked about the European crisis and the measures EU nations took to overcome it. She said the EU should halt austerity measures, which "demand big investment cuts, cause decrease in employment and growth, and generate recession."

"Of course the developed countries have to stop speculation and enhance control over their finance and banks, but it is a must that they resume growth," she added.

In addition, the president told the European leaders that the emerging countries hope to participate in the debate on the counter-crisis decisions with the rich countries, as the crisis may affect their economies as well.

The trip had a personal touch for Rousseff too. She visited her father's hometown in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, and the grave of her half-brother Lyuben.
