Eto malko info A couple hours after he scored 27 points in a 102-96 win over Dallas, Shareef Abdur-Rahim was traded to Portland in a five-player deal that sent Rasheed Wallace to Atlanta on Monday, Feb. 9. The Blazers also landed Theo Ratliff and Dan Dickau, while Wesley Person went to the Hawks. Portland (24-25) is four games out of the West playoff picture, and hopes Abdur-Rahim and Ratliff can help the franchise reach the postseason for the 22nd consecutive season. Abdur-Rahim is averaging 20.1 points and 9.3 rebounds, which are better than Wallace's numbers this season (17.0 ppg, 6.6 rpg). Similar to Wallace, Abdur-Rahim is versatile enough to play alongside budding star Zach Randolph in the frontcourt, even though both are natural power forwards. Ratliff is averaging a league-best 3.13 blocks. "These new guys give us an ability to play defense that we haven't had," coach Maurice Cheeks said. Wallace is a rare combination: a talented, two-time All-Star who plays unselfishly within his team's game plan. He also has had his share of difficulties, ranging from controversial statements this season to an abundance of technical fouls in past years. "As far as the slate goes, there's nothing to wipe away," Atlanta coach Terry Stotts said. "We're getting a very talented player who wants to win." |
