Hello, This year you have helped campaign for an end to trade injustice alongside millions around the world. Before the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ministerial meeting that has just taken place, over 750, 000 votes for trade justice were handed in to 10 Downing Street and, in Hong Kong where the WTO met, Peter Mandelson received over 470, 000 emails calling on him as Europeнs trade commissioner to ensure trade justice was delivered at the meeting. Rich country governments knew what was required of them to make trade work for poor people. However, in Hong Kong they clearly lacked the political will to take the bold steps they should have done. The WTO meeting failed to deliver the trade justice deal needed in 2005 to make poverty history. The responsibility for the WTO failing the world's poor rests with rich countries. Those governments, despite all our campaigning, did not show willingness to deliver trade justice. As a result of this, the agreement reached is far from just for the poor of the world. To read Make Poverty History's full response to the WTO meeting go here. Thank you for voting for Trade Justice and emailing Peter Mandelson and Alan Johnson, the UK trade minister, ahead of this crucial meeting. In 2006 it will be more important than ever before that political leaders know we are all still watching them and calling on them to finally deliver trade justice. The Make Poverty History Team
Hello, 2005 is a year for campaigners to remember. The unprecedented level of global campaigning on poverty in 2005 has been fantastic. Thank you for playing your part in MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY. You were part of the biggest ever anti-poverty movement and in doing so you made history. In its focus on trade justice, more and better aid and dropping debt, the campaign raised awareness of the global impact of economic injustices. It has highlighted two key points: * Poverty is not inevitable. * It is possible to make poverty history if political leaders have the will to do so. The Make Poverty History coalition believes in progress through democracy and has shown that governments can deliver real change when faced with such public demand - change that can mean the difference between life and death for millions of people. There is little doubt that the positive political decisions taken during the year would not have been taken without your passionate commitment and the commitment of campaigners all over the world. If governments follow through on their promises without imposing harmful conditions, millions of lives that would have been lost could now be saved. The fight against poverty continues and your passion and energy and the momentum of 2005 will fuel future campaigning for the years to come. The call to Make Poverty History has inspired a generation: 2005 marks the beginning of something incredible. For more information go here. Thanks, The Make Poverty History Team

Hello, There was some important progress on aid in 2005. But much more needs to be done. The G8 promised to increase aid by $48 billion a year. However, only $15-20 billion of this is newly pledged and the amount of extra money will not reach the level of $48 billion until 2010. This rate of increase is too slow. Can extra money be found? Countries like France and Brazil have pressed ahead with plans for an Air Ticket levy – a tiny supplement to the cost of plane travel – that would create predictable new money for aid. Money to pay for clean water, healthcare and education. A meeting of ministers in Paris next month could unlock this extra money. The good news is that the UK has agreed to join in with this initiative. Yet it can all go wrong unless we are assured of certain commitments. This is where you come in. How much money will the UK put in? Will it truly be extra money? Will it come without strings attached? Tell Gordon Brown to maximise this opportunity The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, is pivotally placed to influence the amount of ‘extra finance’ that can be made available for aid to help make poverty history. Please send him a message. Thank you, The Make Poverty History team
Hello, To make poverty history we need trade justice. Yet, all too often, multinational corporations that trade around the world cause harm to communities, damage the environment and violate the rights of working people. For over a year, Make Poverty History has called on the UK Government to make laws that stop big business profiting at the expense of people and the environment. At the end of 2005 the UK Government published its Company Law Reform Bill. It is the biggest shake-up of company law in decades. But at the moment, the Government’s proposals tell companies to put profits first. There is no obligation for companies to take steps to protect the health, environment and livelihoods of poor communities in the UK and overseas who are affected by their operations. Please help us end this injustice and right corporate wrongs. Email your MP and ask them to: * Sign a petition in Parliament (an ‘Early Day Motion’) * Write to Alun Michael, Minister for Industry and the Regions, to ask for company law that will help make poverty history. Click here. It will only take you a few minutes. Thank you, The Make Poverty History team

Dear ******: You did it! Working as ONE, call by call, you let our leaders know that you wanted America to do more to fight AIDS and extreme poverty-- and they heard you. Late last week, the Senate agreed to two amendments that will add hundreds of millions of dollars to the fight against AIDS, TB and malaria and save the lives of mothers and children around the world. Thank you for speaking up and standing by four Senators who worked together to do the right thing: save lives. Senators Santorum, Durbin, DeWine and Leahy demonstrated real leadership by doing something we don’t see everyday: reaching across political divides to help people in the world’s poorest countries lift themselves out of poverty. To see if YOUR Senators supported this life-saving funding, check out the ONE blog. Your calls helped change minds and votes, proving that when we come together as ONE, we really can do more. Thank you! The ONE Team P.S. Did you know that around the world, 1 billion people – 20% of the population – don’t have clean drinking water? Wednesday is World Water Day, so on your way to the water fountain at school or work, take ONE minute to learn more about the global water crisis and how you can get involved. _________________________________ ТЪРСЯ ЧОВЕКА, от партии ми писнА
As Americans, we understand that education is the key to opportunity. In a world where over 1 billion people live on less than $1 a day, it may also be one of the most powerful ways to help fight poverty. This April, organizations, teachers, kids and everyday people are working together to ensure every child gets the chance to go to school—and as ONE, you can join them! Take part in "Send My Friend to School Week" to learn more about how you can get involved and adult and kid-friendly activities happening across the country! Knowledge has the power to break the cycle of poverty. Investing in education means helping boys and girls live longer, have healthier families, know about the risks of HIV/AIDS, get better jobs and earn a fair living, helping to lift their families, their communities and eventually their countries out of poverty. Find out now how you can Send My Friend to School! Together as ONE, we can change the world - one student, one teacher, one school at a time. Here in the U.S., we can work towards a brighter future for the world’s poorest people by making sure everyone can do what kids in America get to do every day—go to school. Thank you, The ONE Team

Dear Friends, This Tuesday evening, May 23, for the first time in history, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams will broadcast live from Africa. This special report will follow Bono on his much-anticipated trip through some of the world's poorest nations. All across the country, ONE members are hosting watch parties to view this historic broadcast. If you don't see one in your community, I encourage you to host one yourself. Please sign up to host or attend a watch party near you. Tuesday's event is a perfect example of how far we have come. When the ONE Campaign was in its infancy, some said the idea of millions of Americans joining together to fight global poverty was preposterous. Yet, in a little more than a year, over two million of us have formed one of the nation's largest grassroots organizations. We have come together to send a message - America will not be silent in the face of staggering poverty. Our message has been heard. We have made incredible progress. At last year's G8 summit, we convinced world leaders to commit an unprecedented investment of $50 billion per year in life-saving assistance by 2010. Congress also has increased funding to combat extreme poverty and AIDS. However, our recent success is not the beginning, nor is it the end; it is only one part of the journey. We may have begun on different paths, but we have joined together to become a powerful force for good. The past year of dedication and hope has produced incredible results. We are the most fortunate generation in history. We are the first to have the means to end extreme poverty. And that is exactly what we'll do. Please sign up to host or attend a watch party near you. Thank you. Paul _____________________________________ Б.ВЕЛЧЕВ: ...не си струва да опитваме да се справим с корупцията...

Dear ONE Member: On May 23rd, thousands of us came together at over 540 Watch Parties across 50 states in 33 countries on 6 continents... we'll get Antarctica next time! More Americans than ever before met in living rooms across the country to fight extreme global poverty. Now, we are building on this outpouring of community-based support by asking Mayors to make an official proclamation in support of ONE. Add your name to our City of ONE petition, and help make your hometown part of the campaign to make poverty history. Sign a petition asking your Mayor to make an official proclamation in support of the ONE Campaign Earlier this month, thanks in part to the over 200, 000 letters sent by ONE members, a majority of the Senate signed a letter in support of critical funding to fight poverty. Then, just two weeks later, ONE members hosted over 500 parties across the country. Allison Fell who hosted a watch party last week in Wayne, Pennsylvania said, "I feel that I've helped spread awareness to some of my friends...but I could do much more...this is only the beginning!" You can help us keep up the momentum. Just a handful of signatures in a city can make a proclamation happen. Sign the petition to make your city a City of ONE, then tell your friends and your neighbors to do the same. You might be surprised how quickly your community will come together to change the world. As cities across the country join us, the end of extreme poverty and AIDS will no longer seem a distant goal, but rather a national priority. Sign a petition asking your Mayor to make an official proclamation in support of the ONE Campaign Thanks, Paul Dioguardi, ONE Campaign _____________________________________ http://www.kaily.dir.bg - ДЪРЖАВАТА ТОВА Е ФАРС
Hello, In 2005 we made great strides in the fight against poverty and I'm proud of every one that joined the campaigns around the world to make poverty history. Because you came together and acted as one, world leaders made promises that have the potential to help millions escape the prison of poverty. That is a great achievement. But now we face the difficult task of making our governments turn their promises into the actions that will save millions of lives. We can be the great generation that makes poverty history. But to make poverty history we must now make promises happen one by one. Don't give up now - let your politicians know you are watching every step they take. They made promises - now they must make them good. You can make a difference by your actions. I thank you, Nelson Mandela ___________________________________ kaily.dir.bg-ДЪРЖАВАТА ТОВА Е ФАРС
