| Liverpool revived by record triumph Tuesday 6 November 2007 Match report by John Mathews from Anfield A Yossi Benayoun hat-trick, two goals apiece for Ryan Babel and Peter Crouch, and a further strike by Steven Gerrard earned Liverpool FC a record UEFA Champions League victory as they swept Beş iktaş JK aside. Dream response One point from their opening three matches had left the 2005 winners looking isolated at the bottom of Group A, but they responded in the best possible fashion. Two goals to the good at half-time, they ran away with the game in the second period as Beş iktaş , with memories of beating Liverpool a fortnight ago still fresh, suffered a night to forget. No tension If Liverpool and their supporters were tense, there were no obvious signs to begin with. Crouch set up Andriy Voronin for the first opportunity in the fourth minute but the Ukrainian international could not control the England striker's cushioned header and dragged his effort wide. Crouch went close soon after, rising as high as only he seemingly can to meet John Arne Riise's cross, and although he headed a metre wide, his persistence would soon pay off. Crouch strikes On 19 minutes Crouch grabbed the breakthrough when he was unwittingly released by Beş iktaş midfielder Edouard Cissé , and although goalkeeper Hakan Arı kan parried his initial strike, he reacted quickest to the rebound and steered it home. Buoyed by their positive start, last season's runners-up only turned up the pressure on Beş iktaş . İ brahim Ü zü lmez had to head the ball off the line to deny Riise, though the Norwegian was instrumental in creating Liverpool's second. Benayoun goal Riise's quickly taken throw-in found Voronin in space down the left and he picked out Benayoun with a measured cross. If the Israeli had been unlucky not to score on 13 minutes when his attempt clipped a post, he made sure second time around – he steadied himself before powering a shot past Hakan Arı kan and into the corner to make it 2-0 on 32 minutes. Hat-trick complete Eleven minutes into the second half, Benayoun had completed his hat-trick with a pair of tap-ins that owed much to being in the right place at the right time. In the 53rd minute he side-footed into the unguarded net after Hakan Arı kan had blocked Riise's shot into his path, and when the Beş iktaş goalkeeper failed to hold a stinging free-kick by Gerrard, the midfielder tidied up to claim the first UEFA Champions League hat-trick of the season. Gerrard then blasted in the fifth with the benefit of a deflection in the 69th minute following a neat one-two with Voronin. Breathless finish Benayoun turned provider 12 minutes from time, supplying the cross for Babel to fox Hakan Arı kan with a clever back-heel, and there was more than a touch of good fortune about the Dutchman's second when İ brahim Toraman's attempted clearance bounced off Babel's back and looped into the net. With the Kop demanding an eighth, Babel almost answered their calls when nodding against the crossbar, but Crouch eventually obliged with a minute to go, his glancing header coming courtesy of another Benayoun centre. |
| Liverpool hit back to the power of eight Kevin McCarra at Anfield Wednesday November 7, 2007 The Guardian It was impossible for Liverpool to do anything more in Group A of the Champions League than hoist themselves into third place but they have raised their confidence level to the very heavens. That self-belief is essential none the less because Marseille's defeat by Porto means that Rafael Benitez's side are three points short of the second qualifying place with two fixtures to be completed. Liverpool and Marseille could, in the end, be tied on 10 points in the group. This would happen if both win their next fixture and the English side then complete the programme with victory in France. Were that outcome to be reached by a 1-0 result, reversing exactly the Anfield defeat by Marseille, a different criterion would separate them. The goals scored by each club over the whole group would decide the matter and, in view of this 8-0 rout, Liverpool would surely trump Marseille. All of that is, for the time being, in the realms of convoluted speculation. Liverpool would be wiser to confine themselves to recognising the immediate benefit of setting the record result in Champions League history. It attests to the abrupt expressiveness of a side who have usually had too little to say for themselves. Besiktas, of course, have to be disparaged as a team of minimal resilience. Their victory against Liverpool in Istanbul must now seem all the more maddening to the Premier League club. Prior to this fixture the Anfield team had hit a mere two goals in the group. Peter Crouch alone got as many here and even he seemed sluggish when Yossi Benayoun pocketed one hat-trick and the substitute Ryan Babel almost had another but the ball hit the bar. Oddly the performer who outdid even Benayoun could not himself score. The irrepressible movement of Andriy Voronin was, none the less, traumatic for Besiktas. The Turkish club were brutalised and clemency was nowhere to be found. With two minutes to go, Crouch was gleeful as he nodded in a delivery from Benayoun. The England forward basked in the limelight after months in which he had sometimes been confined to the shadows. The entire line-up made sense, with Javier Mascherano keeping the midfield in balance while team-mates concentrated on knocking Besiktas off their feet. Despite the pyrotechnics this was a mature display, with Liverpool methodically building their dominance prior to the interval. There had not, admittedly, been all that much reason lately for exuberance over events on this pitch. Apart from being beaten by Marseille here, Liverpool have won only a single Premier League game in five attempts at home in the current programme. It was, therefore, a breach of the pattern for Liverpool to be leading 2-0 with slightly over half an hour completed. Besiktas, missing their best defender, the centre-back Gokhan Zan, ultimately surrendered to despair. It was Crouch who initially nudged them towards capitulation. Voronin aimed a pass towards him after 19 minutes and when the holding midfielder Edouard Cissé sought to intercept he simply prodded the ball into the path of Crouch. The first attempt by the striker was saved by the hapless Hakan Arikan but he knocked in the rebound. With 32 minutes gone the visitors should have been awarded a throw-in after the ball broke from John Arne Riise, but the Norwegian shamelessly took it himself. Voronin crossed deep and Benayoun finished well with a low drive. Besiktas, disheartened, became ever more fragile and Voronin, in this mood, would have smashed tougher visitors than these. The energy of the Ukrainian was a marvel but that vitality was applied with discernment. His pass set up Riise for the typically bullish shot which Arikan pushed out as far as Benayoun, who snatched his second goal after 52 minutes. The hat-trick for the Israeli was an inevitability. When Lamine Diatta brought down Voronin, Steven Gerrard's free-kick came back off the goalkeeper to the waiting Benayoun. Liverpool wishes were coming true at a frenetic rate and the singing welled up in acclaim of Bení tez. Jubilation also gushed out for a beautiful goal by Gerrard, who completed a pair of one-twos with Mascherano and Voronin before smashing home his finish after 69 minutes. Not to be outdone, Babel recorded the sixth by flicking in a Benayoun cut-back with the inside of his heel. After 81 minutes Ibrahim Toraman's clearance bounced off the Dutchman to float high into the net. Anfield ignominy assumed a multitude of forms for Besiktas. |

За приликата между "червените" от София и Ливърпул Пон, 2007-11-05 14:19 Разликата е ясна като бял ден и затова няма да се спирам на нея. Споменавам го не за друго, а защото веднага ще се намерят хора да кажат: "Я пък тоя, взел да сравнява ЦСКА с Ливърпул". Далеч съм от тая мисъл. Има обаче едно нещо, по което и двата отбора си приличат (освен червените екипи, разбира се) и то е свързано с трансферната политика. И в двата клуба тя е дълбоко погрешна, което естествено се отразява и на представянето на двата отбора в последните 15-16 години. Та, както се казва - къде е заровено кучето? За мен отговорът е съвсем ясен - в закупуването на компромисни футболисти. Ако някой все още се чуди защо Ливърпул не може да сглоби отбор, който успешно да конкурира Юнайтед и Арсенал, а в последните години и Челси, просто да направи справка за бройката играчи, минали през Анфийлд през последните 15-16 години. Колко от тях бяха супер класни футболни звезди? Не се сещам. В момента единствената звезда в Ливърпул е Стиви Джерард. Той е единственият, сравним по качества с футболни величия като Кака, Деко, Роналдиньо, Кр.Роналдо, Ето'о, Меси, Нани, Рууни, Фабрегас, Дрогба, Ван Перси, Лампард... и пр. да не изброявам. Да, но той е юноша на червените от града на Битълс и не влиза в бройката на закупените играчи. През този сезон Ливърпул за първи път от години купиха звезда - Фернандо Торес. Всички останали трансфери отново са на компромисни футболисти. Затова и играта, и резултатите на отбора до момента с нищо не подсказват, че Ливърпул ще стане шампион след дълго чакане на така жадуваната титла. Защо няма да стане вече отговорих, просто вижте какви трансфери правят конкурентите. Купува се играч с доказани качества, който влиза и почва да играе, а не тепърва да го чакаме да се приспособява в отбора. Т.е., в Ливърпул липсват т.нар. решаващи футболисти - които могат сами да създадат положение, да решат даден мач. Такива като по-горе изброените. На практика какво се получава - набелязваме играч с някакви положителни качества, купуваме го на компромисна цена и сме доволни, че не сме дали 30-40 милиона за някоя звезда като се надяваме, че геният на Бенитес ще сътвори чудеса с такива компромисни футболисти. Да, но не се получава. Същото е положението (макар и в съвсем други футболни измерения) в отбора на червените от София. За последните 17 години след "избухването на демокрацията" през ЦСКА се изредиха около стотина футболисти, че и повече. Колко запомнихме от тях като класни футболисти, достойно да носят червената фланелка - аз се сещам само за Гай, Забавник, Хидиуед, Петре и... простете ми ако съм пропуснал някой. Всеки сезон се водят по 7-8 нови (в последния числото стигна 12) и от тях я става един, я не. Същото е и сега - един Неи, за когото всъщност все още не съм напълно убеден, че е супер сила за нашите стандарти, разбира се/ и останалото е мъгла. Почти всички са с компромисни качества. Може би у един-двама има потенциал за някакво развитие и толкова. Така че, с компромисни играчи не става. И ако в Англия не знаят нашата поговорка "Евтиното излиза скъпо", то на ръководството на "червените" някой трябва да я припомни. Защото за 12 футболисти числото 2-3 милиона е смешно. Може на някого тази сума за трансфери да се му се струва голяма и казаното от мен да звучи парадоксално, но на практика не е така. При всички случаи е по-добре да дадеш същите пари за 3-ма, но много качествени играчи отколкото за 12 смешника. Затова и играта на отбора е такава. Просто в ЦСКА липсват решаващите футболисти. Такива, които да създават паника в противниковата защита, такива от които да се страхуват... Да оставим настрана липсата на качества у Стойчо. Това е една друга тема. Но дори и с неговите възможности при една правилна трансферна политика нещата можеха да изглеждат по-добре. Затова любимият ми ЦСКА ще продължава да играе зле (дори и да стане шампион), а пък другият любим - Ливърпул със сигурност и тази година няма да триумфира в Англия. James, лузърпул е много смотан отбор по мое мнение. Не мога да разбера за какво си я направил тая тема. Да не забравяме предишният им мач в ШЛ и как турчлята им взеха 3 точки...  |
