The ratings agency Fitch has downgraded Greece's sovereign rating amid growing uncertainty over the new government's pledge to overhaul reforms needed to restart bailout loan payments and avoid default.
The agency late Friday said it had lowered the country's rating deeper into non-investment grade status from B to CCC, citing "extreme pressure on Greek government funding."

The Proto Thema weekly has published revelations regarding the luxury homes in Plaka and the island of Aegina, belonging to Danae Stratou, the wife of Finance Minister Yannis Varoufakis.
According to the publication, both the idyllic luxury villa on Aegina and the Plaka apartment have been rented for short stays to tourists, without having the registrations needed for this kind of business.
The paper reports that Mrs. Stratou and her mother Eleni Potaga (another famous artist), who are the owners of the properties, should have obtained a permit from the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO, Greek: EOT). It is required by law if one is to rent something out, and enables the proper filing of tax returns. Letting an unregistered property might fetch a fine of up to € 50,000.
The publication reminds that obtaining this permit is neither expensive nor time-consuming. According to Daily Mail, the Aegina villa was a rented for €5000 per week

Greece draws up drachma plans, prepares to miss IMF payment
Greece is drawing up drastic plans to nationalise the country's banking system and introduce a parallel currency to pay bills unless the eurozone takes steps to defuse the simmering crisis and soften its demands.

Sources close to the ruling Syriza party said the government is determined to keep public services running and pay pensions as funds run critically low. It may be forced to take the unprecedented step of missing a payment to the International Monetary Fund next week.

Greece no longer has enough money to pay the IMF €458m on April 9 and also to cover payments for salaries and social security on April 14, unless the eurozone agrees to disburse the next tranche of its interim bail-out deal in time.

“We are a Left-wing government. If we have to choose between a default to the IMF or a default to our own people, it is a no-brainer,” said a senior official.

“We may have to go into a silent arrears process with the IMF. This will cause a furore in the markets and means that the clock will start to tick much faster,” the source told The Telegraph.
