| ASTANA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao met his Kazakh counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev, here Saturday to discuss further development of the two countries' close ties. The two leaders will also exchange views on major international and regional issues of common concern, Chinese diplomats said. Hu arrived here earlier in the day for a working visit.  *** ASHGABAT, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's upcoming working visit to Turkmenistan will further consolidate the momentum of bilateral cooperation, enhance political mutual trust, and effectively push the bilateral comprehensive mutual trust and cooperation into a new stage, said Chinese Ambassador to Turkmenistan Wu Hongbin. At the invitation of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, Hu will pay a working visit to Turkmenistan on Dec. 13-14. The Chinese president is scheduled to attend a launching ceremony of a Central Asia gas pipeline, and hold formal talks with Berdymukhamedov. The two leaders will exchange ideas on major international and regional issues, and map out future directions of the bilateral reciprocal cooperation. Wu said China attached great importance to the development of comprehensive mutual trust and cooperation with Turkmenistan, which is an important force to maintain stability in Central Asia and is enjoying increased status in regional affairs. China and Turkmenistan had been keeping desirable cooperation in all fields since the establishment of diplomatic relationship 17 years ago. The two countries enjoyed high-level political mutual trust, had the same or similar positions on almost all major international issues, and conducted mutual support and close coordination on the world multilateral stage. On issues related with Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang which closely involve China's core interests, the Turkmen side has adopted firm standpoints and clear-cut attitudes in resolute support for China's various efforts for safeguarding national unification and stability. The ambassador said that the Central Asia natural gas pipeline exemplified the multilateral cooperation in the Central Asian region and bore important strategic significance to social and economic development of participating countries. Wu stressed that the two countries were also accelerating cooperation in non-resource fields, and enjoyed broad prospects on cooperation in the introduction of railway locomotives, communications update and agricultural products processing. He added that the Chinese enterprises took interest in Turkmenistan's major large-scale infrastructure projects in the construction of railways, bridges and plants. China and Turkmenistan had great potential in further expanding the people-to-people cooperation, which has drawn special attentions from leaders of the two countries. He said China was willing to further promote exchanges with the Turkmen side on education, culture, sports and tourism among other fields, and welcome more Turkmen students to study in China. |
| URUMQI, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A railway became operational Sunday in west China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region, which is expected to boost the transportation from China to central Asia and Europe, said local railway authorities. The railway, called Second Urumqi-Jinghe Line, runs 381.5 km and links the region's capital Urumqi and Jinghe county. It has a designed transportation capacity of 67.1 million tonnes, which is expected to grow up to 91.7 million tonnes in the future. With a designed speed of 120 km per hour, the railway cost 2.77 billion yuan, according to a statement from Xinjiang Railway Bureau. Jinghe is linked to Horgos and Alataw Pass, ports on the China-Kazakhstan border, by two other railways. One starts from Jinghe and ends at Horgos. The other runs from Urumqi through Jinghe to Alataw Pass. The launch of the new railway would greatly enhance China's transportation capacity to Kazakhstan and further into other countries in central Asia and Europe, the statement said. *** BEIJING, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang on Tuesday called on member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to work out an agreement on facilitation of road transport as soon as possible, to lay a sound legal basis for regional transportation. Zhang made the remarks in a meeting with transport ministers or their representatives from the SCO member states and observer nations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan and the specially invited Afghanistan at the fourth conference of SCO transport ministers held in Beijing on Tuesday. Zhang urged SCO member states to make transport a priority of cooperation, and jointly formulate the Plan on Road Network Development Coordination, and expedite the negotiation on the Agreement on Facilitation of International Road Transport. The SCO, established in 2001, comprises China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Mongolia, India, Pakistan and Iran are observers of the group. |
 TURKMENABAD, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his counterparts from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Monday jointly put into operation a natural gas pipeline linking the four nations. At the ceremony in a gas plant near the Turkmen-Uzbek border, President Hu said the China-Central Asia natural gas pipeline is a model of sincere solidarity and mutually beneficial cooperation of the four countries. He said the gas pipeline is a carrier of goodwill for friendship and mutual benefits of the four countries. With their hands on wheel of valves, President Hu and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Uzbek President Islam Karimov turned on the flow of natural gas together in the gas plant on the right bank of the AmuDarya River. The 1, 833-kilometer gas pipeline starts at the gas plant near this border town in Turkmenistan and runs through central Uzbekistan and southern Kazakhstan before entering China at the border pass of Horgos in the northwest region of Xinjiang. One of the two parallel pipelines which make up the project has already come on stream and the other line is expected to be operational next year. The pipeline connects with pipelines inside China that carry natural gas produced in Turkmenistan to major Chinese cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. President Hu said at the inauguration ceremony that the China-Central Asia natural gas pipeline is a major cooperative project and of great significance to the four countries. He said China is ready to continue to maintain close communication and step up coordination with Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to build the second line of the project and secure safety and efficiency in the pipeline's operation. He said China is ready to advance energy collaboration among the four countries in an all-round way and to establish a long-term, stable, secured and reliable partnership of energy cooperation. Hu said the plan and construction of the gas pipeline has won consistent attention and support of the presidents of the three Central Asian countries. The governments of these countries have done a great deal to lay a solid foundation for the smooth progress of pipeline construction. Hu said the pipeline is also a result of hard work by engineers from the four countries who have set a high standard of safety, efficiency and quality in construction. Hu said the four countries have their own specific advantages in energy industry and share conformity in the policy goals of developing energy industry. He said in recent years, the four countries have actively carried out energy cooperation and achieved fruitful results in line with the principle of mutual complementarity, mutual benefit, equality and win-win cooperation. President Hu traveled some 80 kilometers by car from the Turkmenabat Airport to the border town. He and other leaders were given warm welcome by the local people. At the ceremony, the leaders spoke highly of the pipeline, saying the China-Central Asia gas pipeline will bring benefits to the whole region. Hu said at present the international situation is undergoing profound and complicated changes. He called for the four countries to strengthen cooperation and work to promote common development of all countries in the region. He said the China-Central Asia gas pipeline provided yet another important platform for regional cooperation. He called for the countries to apply the experience and model of this project to other fields of cooperation among the four countries so as to enhance regional economic cooperation in an extensive way and lay a solid foundation for institutionalizing and scaling up regional cooperation. Hu said China and Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are good neighbors whose people share long-standing friendship. In recent years, the sustained, healthy and steady growth of relations among the four nations has brought about substantial benefits to economic growth, social stability and improvement of international status of the four countries. Hu said China places great importance on developing friendly cooperation with Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. He expressed the wish that the four nations be good neighbors, friends and partners forever. Chinese officials said that the pipeline will serve the long-term interests of China and Central Asian nations, and will promote social and economic development of the countries in the region. Turkmenistan's state media said that transporting gas supplies to China is important for the implementation of the country's strategy to diversify energy export routes to world markets. Turkmen President Berdymukhamedov said in an earlier interview with Chinese media that the gas pipeline is an embodiment of true partnership based on equality, mutual complementarity and full recognition and utilization of cooperative potentials. He said the completion of the pipeline opened up a greater prospect of bilateral cooperation. "The project has truly realized the balance of interests among energy exporters, transporters and consumers," he told reporters. Deimdet Sh. Shayakhmetov, general director of Asia Gas Pipeline LLP of Kazakhstan, said in an interview that construction of the gas pipeline has created a large number of job opportunities and prompted growth of relevant industries in Kazakhstan. He said after the gas pipeline went into operation, Kazakhstan would reap in a handsome income from transport fees. The sub-line of the pipeline will supply much needed natural gas to southern part of Kazakhstan, Shayakhmetov said. Shayakhmetov said the gas pipeline has opened up a new outlet of energy export for both Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and will bring about a great deal of income from transport fees to the latter. "In fact, the most significant point of the China-Central Asia gas pipeline lies in that we and our neighbors find more common interests and cooperative opportunities," Shayakhmetov said. Chinese officials said the pipeline will help improve the energy structure of China. |
 TOKYO, Dec. 15 Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met with Japanese Emperor Akihito at the Imperial Palace Tuesday. Both agreed that Xi's visit would further promote friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. "I hope my visit will contribute to the development of friendly cooperation between the two countries and boost the friendship between the two peoples," Xi told the emperor. "I has met with Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama for fruitful talks, had extensive contact with local people from all walks of life, and will also visit the northern Kyushu area." Xi said. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and China has made remarkable progress in the last 60 years, especially in the last 30 years since the reforms and opening-up, he said. "Great changes have also taken place since your majesty's first visit to China 17 years ago, " Xi said. The Emperor and Empress paid their first visit to China in 1992on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the normalization of relations between Japan and China. The emperor said his visit in 1992 left a deep impression on him. The Chinese vice president's visit would further boost the friendly ties between the two countries, he said.  |
[/img]ZHUHAI, Guangdong, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Construction of the world's longest cross-sea bridge linking China's southern economic hub of Guangdong Province to Hong Kong and Macao began Tuesday, a move widely expected to bring economic ties closer.  Starting from the Lantau Island in Hong Kong, the Y-shaped HongKong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge will have a total length of almost 50 km, of which about 35 km will be built over the sea, making it the longest cross-sea bridge in the world, said Zhu Yongling, an official in charge of the project construction.  It will be built according to the six-lane expressway standard with a vehicle speed limit of 100 km per hour. "It is designed with a service life of 120 years. It can withstand the impact of a strong wind with a speed of 51 meters per second, or equal to a maximum Beaufort scale 16 (184 to 201 km per hour)," Zhu said. "It can also resist the impact of 8-magnitude earthquake and a 300, 000-tonne vessel," he said.  The entire project was estimated to cost almost 73 billion yuan (10.7 billion U.S. dollars), which would be shared by authorities on the mainland, and in Hong Kong and Macao, he said.  During construction, they would take into consideration the protection of the ocean environment and marine life, such as white dolphins, he said. "We will control the construction noise and turbidity of seawater, and prevent oil pollution," he said.  The construction would take about six years, he said. On completion, it would take about half an hour to travel from Zhuhai or Macao on the west bank of the Pearl River to Hong Kong on the east bank, compared with the current three hours, he said.  |

 Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni here on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations. Xi said China attached great importance to bilateral relations with Cambodia and was willing to enhance cooperation with the country, in a bid to push the Sino-Cambodia comprehensive cooperative partnership forward. Cambodia had always firmly supported China on issues relating to its core and major interests, and was a good neighbor, friend and partner to China, Xi said. It was the Chinese and Cambodian peoples' wish to further cement and develop the friendly cooperative relations, which served the fundamental interests of both countries, and was conducive to regional peace, stability and prosperity, Xi noted. Sihamoni said China and Cambodia currently enjoyed a good relationship and had close cooperation in many fields. He believed Xi's visit would further promote friendship and cooperation between the two nations. The Cambodian king thanked China for its long-term help to his country, and spoke highly of China's achievements on both domestic and international issues. Cambodia was willing to further develop the unity and friendship with China, and to see friendship growing between the two peoples. Xi also attended the opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute in Phnom Penh on Tuesday. Cambodia is the last leg of Xi's four-nation tour, which has also taken him to Japan, South Korea and Myanmar.  |
| Ford expects Volvo deal with Geely soon CHICAGO, Dec. 23 U.S. automaker Ford Motor Co. said in a statement Wednesday that it is close to finalizing a deal to sell its Swedish luxury brand Volvo to China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co.. Ford confirmed that "all substantive commercial terms relating to the potential sale of (Volvo) have been settled," but added that "some work still remains to be completed before signing -- including final documentation, financing and government approvals." The news sent Ford's stock above 10 U.S. dollars a share for the first time since 2005, prompting at least one analyst to raise his outlook for the company. "The prospective sale would ensure Volvo has the resources, including the capital investment, necessary to further strengthen the business and build its global franchise, while enabling Ford to continue to focus on and implement its core One Ford strategy," the Dearborn automaker said. According to analysts here, while Geely has some financing from Chinese banks, the announcement of Ford Wednesday aimed at helping China's largest private automaker secure additional loans and win government approval for the acquisition. Ford said it will continue to work with Volvo after the sale, but it will not retain a stake in the Swedish company. |

 HANGZHOU A sea-crossing bridge linking Zhoushan City, China's only city of more than 1, 000 islands in eastern Zhejiang Province, with the country's mainland went into trial operation Friday. Costing 13.1 billion yuan (1.9 billion U.S. dollars), the 46.5 km-long Zhoushan Sea-crossing Bridge, so far the longest of its kind in the country, was completed after 10 years of construction.  The bridge starts at the Zhoushan island, passing the island of Lidiao, Fuchi, Cezi and Jintang and traversing several watercourses, and connects with the national expressway network at Zhenhai District in Ningbo, an economically strong city of Zhejiang Province. The opening of the bridge will improve the life of Zhoushan residents and facilitate the development of the deep-water harborsof Zhoushan and Ningbo, said Lu Zushan, governor of Zhejiang. Rich in marine resources, Zhoushan is one of China's major fishing grounds. The Zhoushan Port is a natural communications hub for ships sailing from south to north. It handled more than 10 million twenty foot-equivalent units (TEUs) last year.  The Wuhan-Guangzhou high speed railway will go into operation Saturday with 28 passenger trains carrying an estimated 1, 300 people. Travel time between Wuhan, the capital of central China's Hubei province, and Guangzhou, the capital of south China's Guangdong province, will be cut to only three hours. The high speed rail link is nearly nine-hundred and 90 kilometers in length and is built to the highest technical standards. The stations along the line have distinct designs representing local styles and are built to be environmental-friendly with easy access for disabled people. Thursday, the first batch of five hundred passengers got to take a test ride. |

Работата над проекта започна през 2005 г. като част от плановете за разширяване на високоскоростната жп мрежа в страната, като целта бе бизнес центърът Гуанджоу, разположен в Южен Китай близо до Хонконг, да се свърже със столицата Пекин. |

Новите данни отговарят на разлика от 4, 59 млрд. долара. Ръстът в сектора на земеделието е бил 10, 7 %. Данните за БВП за 2009 г. ще бъдат изчислени на база на актуализираните данни, но не се очаква това да доведе до драстични разлики спрямо сегашните прогнози. Очаква се ръстът на китайската икономика през 2009 г. да бъде около 8 % за сега. После ще видим колко ще бъде окончателно сриването. Ясно е как китайската икономика съвсем яко го закърши, след като не се спазват човешките права. Ето току що осъдиха арестуваният още през 2008 година 53 годишния бивш университетски професор Лю Ксяобо на 11 години затвор за „подривни действия срещу държавата.” Той е ветеран от протестите от 1989 година на площада Тянънмън. В добре известен демократичен стил той написа Харта 08, в която призова за по-големи граждански свободи, демократични реформи в тоталитарната комунистическа държава и за премахване на еднопартийната система на управление, довели до крах китайската икономика и благосъстоянието на китайския народ. От малкото подписали харта 08 все още няма арестувани, но са заплашвани и съответно си траят. Съпругата на арестувания заяви, че той ще обжалва. Световната демократична общност остро осъди този варварски акт, но китайското външно министерство нагло отхвърли тези протести като „вмешателство във вътрешните работи” и нищо чудно, ако обжалва съдът да му даде максималната предвидена от закона присъда от 15 години. |
